All the excitement for Austin Riley entering the game was tampered somewhat after a second inning strikeout, but was quickly revived (and elevated) when the 22-year-old hit his first career homer in the fourth. The ball traveled 438 feet and left the bat at 109 MPH, which backs up the long-standing reports of Riley’s incredible raw power. On the mound, Mike Soroka was equally impressive, completing seven shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking three, and striking out three. Luke Jackson inherited two baserunners from Dan Winkler in the eighth, but quickly induced a double play and struck out the next batter to calm the storm.
