WASHINGTON -- Braves manager Brian Snitker entered the season's second half with Ronald Acuna Jr. as his leadoff hitter, admitting his decision was influenced by the desire to allow Ozzie Albies to continue finding comfort batting in front of Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis.
"It's just about keeping him in a spot where he's been more successful," Snitker said. "I don't think the approach is going to be any different in either role. He's an impressive guy."
Albies has positioned himself for National League MVP Award consideration, but the All-Star second baseman wasn't nearly as productive in the two stretches he sat at the top of the order in place of Ender Inciarte, whose prolonged struggles have led to him being removed from the leadoff spot for the third time this season.
