ATLANTA -- The Braves on Thursday designated veteran right-hander Trevor Cahill for assignment and promoted left-handed reliever Dana Eveland from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Cahill, a former All-Star with the A's, has struggled mightily this year with the Braves, posting a 7.52 ERA in 26 1/3 innings. Opposing batters are hitting .330 against him this season.
The Braves signed Eveland to a Minor League contract on Sunday. The 31-year-old has thrown 25 innings in Triple-A this season with Pawtucket and Gwinnett, posting a 1.44 ERA and striking out 23 batters while walking just three.
Thursday's move comes just two days after the Braves promoted the recently acquired David Aardsma.
