The Braves desperately needed to revamp their bullpen for the playoff push, and GM Alex Anthopoulos did just that prior to the Trade Deadline, adding veteran relievers Shane Greene, Mark Melancon and Chris Martin on Wednesday. All three players have been added to the Braves’ 25-man roster in time for Thursday night’s tilt with the Cincinnati Reds.
To make room for the trio of relievers, the Braves optioned AJ Minter, Chad Sobotka and Jeremy Walker to Triple-A Gwinnett. This was a fairly expected move given all three players had minor league options remaining. Assuming they pitch well over the next month with the Stripers, one would assume they will rejoin the Braves at some point in September once the rosters expand.
