Braves $174 million two-time All-Star predicted to spurn Atlanta for Red Sox

Can the Atlanta Braves afford to hang onto one of their homegrown stars?

The Braves have built one of Major League Baseball's best rosters by locking up most of their young, talented players before they ever reach free agency. However, one of their brightest stars was a noteworthy omission from that list of contract extensions.

Homegrown starting pitcher Max Fried, one of the most consistent hurlers in all of baseball for the last half-decade, is now a free agent. The Braves could hypothetically weather the storm of losing him in their rotation, but there's no doubt he'd make them better if he were to stay.
