ATLANTA -- Mike Foltynewicz provided the bullpen a much-needed day off with a complete-game gem on Friday night. But when pushed deep into extra innings on Saturday at SunTrust Park, Braves manager Brian Snitker opted to use Miguel Socolovich instead of Dan Winkler or Arodys Vizcaino.
After Jesse Biddle provided three stellar innings of relief work, Socolovich entered and endured a predictable outcome that provided the Nationals a 5-3, 14-inning victory. Well, predictable other than the fact that one of the final-inning hits was produced by Max Scherzer, who scored from first base on Wilmer Difo's decisive two-out triple.
