The 2019 MLB Draft is just around the corner and the Atlanta Braves will be busy early with a pair of picks in the first round. Atlanta gets an additional pick in this year’s draft because they failed to sign last year’s top pick Carter Stewart after some red flags surfaced in his medicals.
It has been reported in multiple places that the Braves’ compensatory pick, which is the ninth overall, was unprotected meaning that Atlanta would not receive another comp pick if they failed to sign whoever they take with the ninth pick. However, as was pointed out last week in a FanPost on Talking Chop, that isn’t the case as the pick is now protected via an update to the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
