With the lowly Philadelphia Phillies in town this week, the Braves likely entered tonight’s game with high hopes, both as a team and for struggling starter Bartolo Colon. The right-hander entered the contest with a 6.99 ERA, and with the Phillies owning the fifth-worst offense in baseball there was some hope that a turnaround may be in the cards. That would not be the case. At all.
The Phillies jumped on Bartolo from the outset, plating three runs in the first including a two-run homer from Tommy Joseph. There were two other hard hit outs in the inning, and it was clear that Colon was not fooling anyone.
