Atlanta (24-31) managed four runs on eight hits Monday night at home, but it was over early as veteran starter Bartolo Colon game up a game’s worth of runs in a short start.
In the end, the Phillies managed 13 hits against Colon and the Braves bullpen, beating Atlanta 11-4 to take game one of four at SunTrust Park.
Philadelphia got the barrage started early with three runs in the first inning and another in the third, meanwhile Nick Pivetta held Atlanta scoreless through those first three.
The Phillies added five more runs in the fourth, leading to Colon being pulled after just three and a third in favor of Sam Freeman.
