PITTSBURGH -- Braves shortstop Erick Aybar was taken to a medical facility to have a chicken bone removed from his throat late Thursday afternoon.
After arriving at PNC Park for Thursday night's finale against the Pirates, Aybar began coughing and feeling some discomfort in his throat. The veteran shortstop informed the Braves' medical staff and was immediately transported to a nearby medical facility.
Braves interim manager Brian Snitker was informed Aybar would likely need to be sedated before the bone could be removed.
"The poor guy had to be scared to death," Snitker said.
