ATLANTA — Eddie Rosario’s pedigree from the southern Puerto Rican city of Guayama boomed across the airwaves Saturday night. It is a city where 49 percent of the population is poverty-stricken and a place that has never overcome the heavy-handedness of colonialism and the sugar cane barons.
Rosario, the Atlanta Braves leftfielder, obviously identifies with the Puerto Ricans from Guayama and their culture of resiliency. You just had to listen for it.
At the end of his interview with TBS on the stage erected on the field at Truist Park, Rosario held his MVP trophy of the National League Championship Series over his head and shouted out in Spanish back to his people.
