The Atlanta Braves sent Sean Newcomb down to the Minor Leagues for one very good reason — he couldn’t command his plus stuff.
There has never been a question about the talent of Newcomb, there have only ever been doubts about his command.
In almost 300 Minor League innings he has a BB/9 of 4.7. In a couple of those seasons he ended up with a BB/9 over five.
Back in 2017 when he made his debut with the Atlanta Braves he walked 57 batters in 100 innings.
Last season he was able to keep is command issues in check for the most part and had a BB/9 of 4.
