The Atlanta Braves drafted Evan John Phillips out of the University of North Carolina, Wilmington in the 17th round.
Phillips was originally drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 33rd round of the 2012 draft. He instead chose to attend UNC-Wilmington.
The Braves started Phillips at advanced rookie Danville of the Appalachian League. After 6 games he was promoted to low-A Rome in the South Atlantic League.
Combined, Phillips made 18 appearances, throwing 29 2/3 innings with a 2.73 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 10.17% walk rate, and 31.36% strikeout rate.
Phillips opened the 2016 season at high-A Carolina.
