While the division leaders across baseball have stepped up and extended their leads, the teams ‘in the middle’ seem to be compressing.
This is especially true in the National League, where ten teams are all within 3½ games of a Wild Card playoff position entering play Tuesday evening.
This includes teams that were recently thought to be certain sellers such as San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and San Diego.
The American League is still proceeding fairly close to expectations, with only Texas acting as a surprise contender.
