At 30 games below .500 now, the 56-86 Braves haven’t exactly been putting up much of an opposition force during this season’s second half. At the same time, you might think that contending teams should tread carefully, lest they lost ground against a team they “should” defeat.
It hasn’t been that difficult for them. Here’s the tally:
- Cubs: 1-6
- Dodgers: 2-1
- Cardinals: 1-2
- Orioles: 0-3
- Giants: 1-2
- Yankees: 0-3
- Nationals: 0-4 so far
- Mets: 0-2 so far
So not only are the Braves 14-44 since that 42-42 high-water mark on July 7th, they are just 5-23 against the contending teams.
