The Braves defeated Boston in the third game of their bizarre 2-and-2 series by a 5-2 margin, but they will likely lose Freddie Freeman, their WAR leader, for at least the next 2-3 days, thanks to an injury from last week and a cortisone shot.
That news almost overshadows an excellent pitching performance from Alex Wood: 2 runs (1 earned), 2 walks (1 semi-intentional) and 6 innings. Additionally, the bullpen actually came through with 3 innings in which they emerged without being scored upon. Nick Masset, Jim Johnson, and Jason Grilli all gave up hits, but walked none and did not permit Boston to mount a serious threat.
