The Gwinnett offense was completely stifled as the Braves fell by the score of 5-0. Kevin Matthews, a 2011 first round pick who was signed as a minor league free agent at the beginning of July and who until now had not made an appearance for any organization above A-ball, got the start for Gwinnett and pitched for good innings for Gwinnett as he gave up just two hits and one earned run. The four walks were less than ideal, but overall it was a solid effort. Evan Phillips, on the other hand, struggled mightily in relief in giving up four earned runs in the 5th inning courtesy of a grand slam.
