Gwinnett got out to an early lead thanks to Rio Ruiz hitting a 3-run homerun with Emilio Bonifacio on base following a lead off walk and a Mel Rojas Jr. single. It was Rio’s 7th homer of the season. The 3 run lead was short lived as Victor Mateo, thrust into a start thanks to the slew of injuries and promotions to the Gwinnett staff, surrendered 2 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Gwinnett immediately answered back with Emilio Bonifacio singling, moving up to 2nd base on a ground out by Omar Infante, stealing his 31st base, and then coming into to score on a Mel Rojas Jr.
