Durham’s starter set down the first 12 Gwinnett batters he faced, but Carlos Franco broke that streak to lead off the 5th inning with a single. After two quick outs a passed ball got Franco over to second base and Tyler Smith singled to bring him in to give Gwinnett a 1-0 lead.
