It wasn’t pretty to start for Newcomb, but after a very rough first inning when he probably should have yielded more than one run, Newcomb cruised to a really solid line. Newcomb walked three, and gave up a single in the first and wiggled out of it yielding just a single run. After that his next six innings he gave up a combined one walk, one single, and one homerun (J.D. Martinez). It was Newcomb’s fourth start in a row where he gave up two or fewer earned runs and he is definitely coming into his own on the mound this season and could be fighting for a rotation spot by the end of the season.
