HOUSTON — The Atlanta Braves are playing in their 10th World Series when Game 1 begins Tuesday night. Fittingly, the Braves return to baseball’s marquee event in the 150th year of the franchise.
In 1871, the team that would become the Braves would become a charter member of the National Association. Then known as the Red Stockings, the franchise won four pennants in the five-year history of the league. When the National League was formed in 1876, the team was a charter member and played the first game in league history, defeating Philadelphia 6-5 on April 22, 1876.
