I’m going to try to make this relatively quick, because the actual, meaningful baseball season is starting tomorrow, and that’s infinitely more interesting than a nearly-interminable month-plus of exhibition baseball games featuring baseball humans many of us have never heard of until a few weeks ago. But, as this happens every year, and 2019 happens to be a year, we’ll roll with it.
I think I’ve written this exact sentence before, but the discussion regarding Spring Training performance has swung like an epistemological pendulum over time. Presumably, at some point (when the first human decided to track Spring Training statistics), there was a belief that performance in these exhibition games had some kind of meaning.
