I’ll get to Chase Whitley in a minute, but first, allow me to pontificate. Is it just me, or does anyone else have this weird mental bifurcation of the 2018 season? Even though there’s no clear demarcation, my mind holds two competing memories of 2018. The first is a season where the Braves used a lot of Ryan Flaherty, continued to employ Jose Ramirez, had a miserable bench, and generally threw a bunch of probable replacement-level players at a wall and hoped they stuck, winning games all the while. The second is more routine and methodical — the march to the postseason with a fairly set lineup, and a lot of praying whenever anyone in the bullpen threw a pitch.
