The Atlanta Braves found themselves with a bit of a catching shortage early in the season that led to some major league roster time for catcher Carlos Perez. Tyler Flowers suffered an oblique injury on Opening Day during his first at-bat that required a trip to the disabled list. Kurt Suzuki suffered an injured hand after he was hit by a pitch on the very next day. Suzuki was able to avoid a trip to the DL but the timing provided some early playing time for Chris Stewart and all but made Braves go out and get Carlos Perez.
