West Brom missed out on the chance to cement their play-off place after suffering a 2-0 home defeat by Preston.
The visitors went ahead through Emil Riis' finish on the goal-line in a sluggish first-half display from Valerien Ismael's men.
They improved at the start of the second half but were killed off when Aston Villa loanee Cameron Archer came off the bench to seal the win for the visitors, ending the hosts' unbeaten home run stretching back 13 games.
