Aston Villa legend Gary Shaw is in a serious condition in hospital after suffering a head injury, reports BBC Radio WM.
The 63-year-old, who helped Villa win the 1981 league title and the European Cup in 1982, suffered the injury in a fall.
Shaw, a former England Under-21 striker, also played for Blackpool, Walsall, Kilmarnock and Shrewsbury Town.
He has worked as a statistical analyst since retiring from football in 1992.
