Steven Gerrard was spotted at the Stade Velodrome on Wednesday night, with the Aston Villa manager reportedly scouting Marseille's defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara as they beat Nantes 3-2.
Gerrard has prioritised signing a new holding midfielder as he looks to reshape his squad this summer with Villa struggling for form in 2022.
Sportsmail revealed last month that Villa are willing to sell Brazil international Douglas Luiz, with Gerrard unimpressed by his peformances at the base of midfield as his side have slumped to nine defeats in their last 15 matches.
Kamara, 22, is rated as one of the best young defensive midfielders in Europe and RMC report that he was the reason for Gerrard's visit to Marseille this week.
