Rachel Daley admitted she was frustrated to be left on the bench for England’s World Cup opener but vowed to convince Sarina Wiegman she is worthy of a starting place against Denmark.
The Lionesses edged out a 1-0 win over minnows Haiti, with Georgia Stanway converting from the penalty spot at the second attempt after a retake was ordered.
Wiegman’s biggest selection dilemma had been who to start up front, with Daly and Arsenal forward Alessia Russo both competing for the No 9 role.
Daly finished was the top scorer in the Women’s Super League last season with 22 goals in 22 games but Wiegman opted for Russo, with the Aston Villa striker brought on for the final 20 minutes.
