Aston Villa target Moussa Diaby is keen to have his future resolved by the weekend with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr also chasing the French attacker.
Reports in Germany indicate that both Villa and Al-Nassr have offered about £43 million for Diaby.
That would break Villa’s transfer record but is still short of Bayer’s valuation of the 24-year-old, which is thought to be about £52m.
Leverkusen depart for a pre-season training camp in Austria at the weekend and all parties would prefer the matter to be resolved by then, though there is no question mark over Diaby’s professionalism.
