Middlesbrough have held further discussions with Aston Villa over a £6million move for striker Rudy Gestede.
Manager Aitor Karanka wants cover for Alvaro Negredo and is willing to offload Jordan Rhodes and David Nugent.
Gestede can play as a lone striker though has not enjoyed the best of seasons with Villa, starting only eight Championship matches.
The 28-year-old was in the crowd at the Riverside Stadium for Middlesbrough's recent 3-0 defeat by Liverpool and will be offered a three-year contract.
