Manchester United 'target reunion with Tom Heaton if they cannot prise Sam Johnstone back from West Brom' with Lee Grant to leave at end of after club's U-turn over one-year deal

Manchester United are reportedly looking into signing former player Tom Heaton if they cannot do a deal for another former employee, Sam Johnstone.

The club are understood to be looking for a seasoned backup goalkeeper to offer cover and competition for David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

According to the Sun, West Bromwich Albion's Sam Johnstone - who spent nine years at Old Trafford, leaving in 2018 - is top of their list.

Manchester United are said to be looking into a transfer return for Aston Villa's Tom Heaton
Heaton was a United youth player for five years, and left Old Trafford for Cardiff City in 2010

The 28-year-old, who was named in Gareth Southgate's last England squad, is at an age where he wants to be playing regularly and would need to believe he has at least a chance of first-team football.
