Joleon Lescott has said sorry to Sunderland supporters, claiming he signed for the club by accident.
The former Aston Villa defender angered long-suffering Black Cats fans by joining their club as an underwhelming free transfer.
But Lescott has offered an explanation for the January window gaffe.
He said, "David Moyes messaged me asking if I wanted to sign for Sunderland.
"The reply I sent saying 'yes please', with a picture of the expensive car I'd like to buy with my wages, was totally accidental and happened whilst driving (a brand new Mercedes Benz) when my phone was in my pocket.
