Aston Villa boss Dean Smith took aim at the Premier League’s ‘crazy’ and ‘ridiculous’ fixture congestion on Saturday, suggesting the relentless schedule is impacting the quality of games.
Villa have won none of their four matches since the restart and are staring at relegation, with their 1-0 loss to Wolves leaving them second bottom.
Smith said: ‘This was an average game from two teams who were very fatigued. They’ve had three games in seven days. We’ve had three in six and four in 11 and that’s the spectacle you’re going to get when you get a fixture congestion like we’ve got.
