Aston Villa have agreed personal terms with Henri Lansbury and are expected to complete the signing of the Nottingham Forest captain on Friday.
Fellow Championship side Forest are believed to have accepted an offer of about £3.5m for the midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer.
Villa boss Steve Bruce said the 26-year-old has already passed a medical.
"There is a little bit of paperwork to be done between the two clubs before it is finalised," Bruce said.
Forest rejected an offer from fierce rivals Derby County for Lansbury earlier in January.
