Yorkshire are considering selling their iconic Headingley ground to ensure the cash-strapped county’s survival.
The club have been seeking around £20million in investment since December but have yet to secure the funding despite interest from potential partners including Mike Ashley, IPL franchises and a Saudi prince.
Another option being pondered by Yorkshire is to sell Headingley and lease it back in a model that has been used successfully by several football clubs including Aston Villa. They recently had the stadium valued at around £23m by a real estate company.
Yorkshire have yet to receive formal offers for the ground that has been their home since 1891, but expect considerable interest given Headingley’s worldwide fame.
