Di Matteo disappointed to go 'so soon'

Aston Villa's next manager needs to be given more time, says long-serving former defender Alan Wright.

Whoever succeeds the sacked Roberto di Matteo will be the fifth different man to pick Villa's team in 12 months.

But ex-left-back Wright, 45, who only played under three managers in eight and a half years at the club, says: "They've just got to give the guy time.

"It needs some sort of philosophy at the club. We've had too many managers coming in with their own philosophy."

Following the sharp exits of Tim Sherwood (250 days), Remi Garde (148 days), caretaker boss Eric Black (65 days) and now Di Matteo (124 days), Wright told BBC WM: "It needs to be the right fit, but then we've said that of the last three or four managers.
