Dwight Gayle’s hat-trick helped Newcastle to a 4-0 win over Birmingham, which sends the Magpies back to the top of the Championship table. The striker struck twice in the first half to put his team in control, before turning provider for Yoan Gouffran two minutes into the second half. Gayle then completed his hat-trick in the final 15 minutes to round off the win.
Roy Beerens struck twice in the second half to secure Reading victory over Sheffield Wednesday, and ensure their excellent season continues. Steven Fletcher pulled one back for the visitors late on, but Jaap Stam’s held on to move just five points off second placed Brighton.
