Aston Villa duo Matty Cash and Lucas Digne were felled by bottles thrown by Everton fans in disgraceful scenes at Goodison Park.
Steven Gerrard’s side were celebrating their breakthrough goal by Emiliano Buendia on the cusp of half-time in front of one of the home stands.
Cash appeared to be struck on the head by a bottle full of orange liquid and it appeared the same thrown missile hit former Everton defender Digne, who also fell to the turf.
Both players were left clutching their heads before eventually returning to their feet.
