Stoke City claimed their second Premier League scalp in as many rounds by knocking Aston Villa out to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Having dispatched Wolves at Molineux last time out in this competition Stoke were again on the road and again did enough to progress.
Sam Vokes headed in midway through the first half to the disappointment of Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer and that proved the decisive goal on the night as Dean Smith's hosts were brought back down to earth after a bright start to the campaign.
