There were contrasting results for our World Cup players on Monday.
Nacho Monreal's Spain topped Group B after a dramatic 2-2 draw with Morocco in Kaliningrad. Our full back was an unused sub as the 2010 world champions twice had to come from behind, with Khalid Boutaib and Youssef En-Nesyri giving Morocco the lead either side of half-time. Equalisers from Isco and Iago Aspas, plus Iran's injury-time equaliser against Portugal, secured Spain's place as group winners.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Elneny played the entirety of Egypt's 2-1 defeat against Saudi Arabia. Mohamed Salah gave Egypt the lead but Salman Al-Faraj's penalty and Salem Al-Dawsari's stoppage-time strike saw Hector Cuper's side finish Group A without a point.
