America would open its arms to English clubs playing Premier League or European games there, a senior figure involved in the 2026 World Cup has claimed.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has urged English football to consider the option after the MetLife Stadium was an 82,000 sell-out for Manchester United's friendly against Arsenal.
The FA have resisted attempts by the Premier League to stage a 39th game abroad. But Governor Murphy said: 'We would die to have a real competitive game anywhere in America. To have a Champions League game in New York/New Jersey, it would be overwhelming.
