Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff has avoided a serious foot injury amid fears his season could have been over.
Mail Sport understands the 25-year-old has not broken a bone after he visited a specialist on Tuesday. He remains doubtful for Saturday’s trip to Leeds but there is a chance he could return, in what would be a major boost for head coach Eddie Howe.
Longstaff suffered the injury when on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Everton’s James Tarkowksi during last month’s 4-1 win at Goodison Park.
His absence was felt as Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal on Sunday, after which Howe said: ‘We thought it was a standard injury, but now there may be a chance of something more serious than that.
