Everyone at the club is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our former coach and scout, Steve Burtenshaw, at the age of 86.

Steve came from a footballing family and spent his playing days with Brighton & Hove Albion until he retired in 1966.

After a spell on the coaching staff with the Seagulls, he joined Arsenal as reserve team coach in November 1967.

During his time in charge of the reserves, Steve's sides won the Football Combination twice, the Football Combination Cup and the London FA Challenge Cup.

In 1971, he was promoted to first-team coach before leaving the club two years later to join QPR.
