The FA Cup has been kind to Arsenal in recent seasons, but at Deepdale on Saturday the competition got off to the worst possible start for the north London side.
The game was only seven minutes old when Callum Robinson struck for Preston North End to send the home fans into raptures, and for much of the first-half it looked as though the biggest upset of the third round might be found in Lancashire.
It did not pan out as such. Aaron Ramsey struck only moments after the restart to level the tie for Arsenal, and with only two minutes to go, Olivier Giroud fired home to secure a late win for Arsene Wenger's side.
