Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must only sign a new contract if Arsenal spend big because he needs 'instant success' due to his age, says Sol Campbell - as he urges striker to demand assurances from Mikel Arteta

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang must demand 'instant success' from Arsenal if he is to sign a new contract, according to club legend Sol Campbell.

Doubts over Aubameyang's future are hanging over the club. Their captain and star striker is reportedly demanding wages of £250,000 per week before even considering whether to sign a new deal, with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan all eyeing a bargain free transfer next summer.

Due to his age - Aubameyang will be 32 by the time his contract expires next June - Campbell says the Gabon striker must be reassured that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will make new signings this summer, despite the financial hit of the coronavirus pandemic, in order to put the club back among the Premier League's elite.
