10) Arsenal 11-1 Darwen
FA Cup third round
January 9, 1932
This walkover kicked off our run to the final, which we eventually lost 2-1 to Newcastle United thanks to the infamous ‘over-the-line’ controversy that led to the Geordies’ Wembley winner, after Bob John had given us the lead.
We were at our zenith and Darwen, who had lost their Football League status in 1899, were now a Lancashire Combination side and clearly no match for us at Highbury, where Ted Drake scored four times and David Jack clinched a hat-trick.
