'It will happen if the president allows me and the fans want me to come back': David Luiz admits he has had talks about a 'dream' return to Benfica with the Brazilian facing Arsenal exit when his contract expires next month

David Luiz has confirmed he has held talks with Benfica's president about a 'dream' return to the Portuguese club, with Arsenal yet to extend his contract beyond his current deal which expires next month.

Luiz signed for the Gunners on an initial one-year deal last summer with an option of a further 12-months inserted into the contract.

The North London club are yet to exercise that option and, as it stands, Luiz will become a free agent on June 30.

The 33-year-old has admitted that he wants to finish his career at Benfica, the club where he made his name, and has revealed talks with the club's president Luís Filipe Vieira have already taken place.
