Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been interviewed by police for alleged racial abuse of a member of staff at Heathrow Airport.

The incident, which supposedly occurred on Monday night when his friend was refused entry onto a flight, comes just one day after the Swiss star was sent off for his ill-discipline on the pitch.

The Telegraph write that a stunned witness saw the 24-year-old racially abused a member of staff in German, before airport security and then the police were called to the scene.

It is understood the 24-year-old was then taken to a police station in west London for further questioning, and a statement from Metropolitan police confirmed: 'Police were called at 19:29hrs on Monday, 23 January following an allegation that a member of staff had been racially abused at Heathrow Airport, Terminal Five.
