The pathway from player to coach is a well-trodden one. But former Southampton and Stoke full-back Graham Potter followed it into unchartered territory when he joined Swedish fourth division club, Östersunds FK in 2011.
‘There was a real negative environment around when I arrived,’ says the Solihull-born 42-year-old, who remembers a crowd of 200 turning up to watch his first game. ‘There was a sort of mistrust from the public. They didn’t really like the club too much.’
Some seven years on, Östersunds FK are the focal point of a city previously best known for their winter sports.
