FIFA bigwig Arsene Wenger insists having mic'd up referees would slash on-pitch dissent, with the public able to hear every word of the abuse aimed at officials

FIFA chief Arsene Wenger has called for referees to be given microphones on field in the hope it will curb on-field dissent shown towards them.

Roy Keane showing dissent to referee Andy D'Urso in January 2000 and the ill-tempered 'Battle of the Bridge' between Chelsea and Tottenham in 2016 are among the famous examples of players losing control and hurling abuse at officials.

Incidents involving Manchester United and Arsenal players this season has also increased suggestions the authorities are concerned player dissent is on the increase.
